Memory Book Project: Preserving Lives, Legacies and Stories

The Memory Book Project helps people living with dementia preserve, celebrate and share the story of their lives.

Through guided conversations, photographs, personal documents and treasured memories, each person creates a unique Memory Book that captures their life journey, from childhood and family experiences to career achievements, service, relationships and later life.

The project provides an opportunity to reflect on meaningful moments, preserve personal history and create a lasting legacy for future generations. Memory Books can also support reminiscence, strengthen connections with loved ones and help families better understand and celebrate the person behind the diagnosis.

Whether created for personal reflection or to share with family and friends, every Memory Book is as unique as the individual whose story it tells.

Preserving memories, celebrating lives and creating lasting legacies for people living with dementia across the UK.

The memory book may include:

  • Early childhood memories and family traditions

  • School days and formative experiences

  • Military service and contributions to their country

  • Career achievements and working life

  • Marriage, parenthood and family life

  • Holidays, hobbies and special interests

  • Friendships, community involvement and personal passions

  • Significant life events, milestones, loves and losses

  • Messages, wisdom and reflections for future generations

The project offers more than a written record. It provides an opportunity for reminiscence, conversation, connection and dignity. Sharing memories can help strengthen identity, encourage meaningful engagement, and create valuable moments with family members, carers and loved ones.

Each completed memory book becomes a lasting legacy, ensuring that personal histories, experiences and life lessons are preserved for children, grandchildren and future generations. It celebrates the individual behind the diagnosis and honours a lifetime of memories that might otherwise be lost.

"Every life has a story worth telling, remembering and preserving."
