HEALTHY
VETERANS
PROJECT

Creating Healthier Lives

We have established that many of our Armed Forces, Merchant Navy and Emergency Services Veterans are excluded from taking part in physical activities alongside their former colleagues once they have been diagnosed with Dementia, Alzheimer’s, or Memory loss.

This is many due to the need to educate our Armed Forces, Merchant Navy, and Emergency Services families that Dementia is not the end and that we need to care for our friends living with dementia on an equal basis.

We have created a new Healthy Veterans Programme to provide inclusive structured physical activity programmes that support those living with Dementia and their carers as a way of improving their health, wellbeing, and independence.

By providing safe, supportive opportunities for our veterans to be able to move more, build confidence and improve their wellbeing and enabling them to see that Dementia is not the end of their journey, but part of a journey where memories are shared and new memories are made.

Our Healthy Veterans Programme includes:

  • Gentle movement and wellbeing sessions

  • Support for mobility and cognitive engagement

  • Falls prevention.

  • Memory stimulation

  • Social Connection

Overall, through our work we will be helping those living with Dementia to:

  • Improve strength and balance.

  • Build Confidence in movement.

  • Support Mental Wellbeing

  • Reduce Social Isolation

  • Maintain independence for longer.

We deliver uplifting, engaging activity sessions that bring joy, movement, and social connection to those who attend. Our work focuses on improving mobility, confidence, and wellbeing in a supportive, pressure free environment.

This is our flagship project that has already been praised by our linked organisations and service charities, and it blends gentle physical movement with cognitive stimulation, social interaction and uplifting themed activities. It is designed to help everyone feel more active, more confident, and more connected.

  • Armchair and Low-Impact Activity Sessions

  • Gentle, enjoyable exercises tailored to different abilities.

  • Wellbeing and Movement Programmes

  • Sessions blending movement, rhythm, games, and light cognitive activities.

  • Community Engagement Events

  • Group games, themed activities, and friendly inter-group competitions.

  • Intergenerational Programmes

  • We will be linking into schools and colleges to encourage intergenerational work with our Veterans living with Dementia as this creates new memories and encourages additional skills to learnt. We will also encourage schools to visit sessions and introduce new activities into these sessions.

  • Experts at the heart of what we do

We will be collaborating with experts with other 20 years of experience to deliver our Healthy Veterans Programmes in the communities to ensure the highest possible standards are always maintained.
