Community Hubs

One to the key aspects of our work are the weekly community hubs for those living with Dementia and their loved ones /carers who are journeying with them

Veterans Dementia Support UK exists to ensure that no veteran faces dementia alone.

We provide specialist, dementia-friendly support for former service personnel and the families who care for them.

Our work recognises the unique experiences of veterans, the impact of service-related trauma, and the importance of culturally competent support that understands military identity, routine, and communication styles.

At the heart of our charity are our weekly support hubs, designed specifically for veterans living with dementia and their loved ones. These groups offer a safe, structured, and welcoming environment where participants can maintain skills, build confidence, and stay socially connected. Activities include cognitive stimulation, reminiscence work, gentle physical movement, creative sessions, and peer-to-peer conversation. We also have advice and information sessions within the hubs and our signposting services.

The familiar military-aware setting helps veterans feel understood, respected, and able to engage in ways they often cannot in mainstream dementia services. Families and carers are equally supported.

Our hubs provide opportunities to share experiences, access practical guidance, and reduce the isolation that so often accompanies caring for someone with dementia.

We offer signposting, emotional support, and a trusted space where relatives can speak openly about challenges and receive reassurance from others who understand.

The impact of our work is significant. Veterans benefit from improved wellbeing, reduced loneliness, and a stronger sense of identity and purpose.

Many maintain independence for longer and experience fewer crisis-point interventions. Families report feeling more resilient, better informed, and less alone in their caring role.

We are creating community hubs across Southern England to start with and also in various other locations in the UK working with our partners and dedicated teams of Volunteers.
