EMPOWERING OTHERS

At Veterans Dementia Support UK, we like to empower others to support Veterans and their families within their local communities. This is usually through becoming one of our dedicated volunteers. To ensure that Volunteers are equipped to provide the support they need, we work to empower them to gain training that will be beneficial to everyone.

DEMENTIA FRIENDS

In association with the nationally recognised training both in person or online, we encourage everyone to undertake this training session, and you are awarded a Dementia Friends badge at the end of the session. These sessions aim to improve public understanding of dementia and inspire individuals to take small, everyday actions to help people affected by the condition. A Dementia Friend is anyone who has completed a session and committed to helping create a more dementia-friendly community

HANDS ON

We offer a further attended training course for one day that covers the different types of Dementia and how it affects those living with Dementia. The session also encourages the participant to take part in hands on sessions to experience daily tasks and activities through the eyes of the affected person. We have participated in these sessions and those taking part have left with significant fresh knowledge and understanding. The training is an essential part of the work that we do in the community and care homes

DIPLOMA IN DEMENTIA

For those who want to learn more, we can access professional training courses to give a greater understanding of Dementia and how they can learn and the deliver the best levels of support. These courses are part funded by the Government and from our training funds.

Through training and development for our volunteers and team leaders we are able to empower people of all ages to understand the condition and use the learning skills for the benefit of others
